Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce
Website published December 2009
The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce is Scotland's largest Chamber of Commerce, and winner of the 2009 UK Chamber of the Year award.
I have redesigned the Chamber's website twice, in 2005 and again in 2009. On both occasions I redesigned the site from scratch, and worked with the Chamber's marketing and business development teams to define the site structure, and craft the content. I also worked closely with a developer to integrate the site with the Chamber's membership database.
My primary challenge was to develop a set of templates sufficiently flexible to present the site's diverse content consistently from section to section. The site features news and events listings, booking and registration pages, business directories, photo galleries, discount directories, contact pages, and relatively straightforward information pages.
I developed a set of templates based on a six column grid, sufficiently flexible to accommodate the information presented on each page, while preserving a sense of underlying unity behind the design. Great care was taken in designing the site's text: a clear but simply typographic order was implemented.
The site's imagery required the gathering and editing of hundreds of images from the Chamber's image database: appropriate imagery was sourced for each page, and edited using Photoshop. I also created dozens of custom graphics showcasing quotes from Chamber clients and staff, and the many Chamber business services.
The site is integrated with Ezone Interactive's WMS content management system, giving Edinburgh Chamber staff full control over the site's content.
